Maersk Frankfurt Salvage operation
-
Project
The Maersk Frankfurt suffered a serious fire in one of its cargo holds while en route in the Arabian Sea. The incident tragically resulted in the death of one crew member. Following the emergency, SMIT Salvage was engaged to provide emergency response and firefighting support. The vessel was eventually stabilised and towed to Jebel Ali Port, where further discharge and recovery operations were carried out under controlled conditions.

What we provided
Treanor Safety supported SMIT Salvage during the emergency response to a major fire aboard the Maersk Frankfurt in the Arabian Sea. Our role included onboard SHEQ support throughout the initial firefighting effort, towage to Jebel Ali, and the complex discharge of distressed cargo. We worked closely with the salvage master and marine crews to ensure safe operations under challenging conditions.

Dealing with unstable dangerous goods (DG) cargo, including temperature-sensitive and damaged containers
Coordinating closely with local authorities and port officials in Jebel Ali to safely discharge distressed cargo under strict regulatory oversight
